How to play German Whispers Sudoku
The difference rule applies to neighboring cells along the green path, not every pair of cells on it. Farther-apart digits may repeat if rows, columns, and boxes permit.
The rules
Fill each row, column, and 3×3 box with 1–9, without repeats. Neighbors along each green line differ by at least five. Digits farther apart on a line may repeat when ordinary rules allow it.
A useful first move
A 5 cannot appear on a multi-cell whispers line: no digit from 1–9 differs from it by five. Line neighbors alternate between low digits 1–4 and high digits 6–9.
A green-line step from 2 to 7 is valid because the difference is 5. A step from 4 to 8 is invalid because it differs by only 4. A 4 on a line can neighbor only 9.
Controls, difficulty, and saved games
Choose Beginner, Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert above. Select an empty cell, then tap a number or use your keyboard. Notes let you pencil in candidates; three hints are available. Three mistakes end the puzzle.
Every mode and difficulty keeps a separate save in this browser. You can switch puzzles and return to your place. Clearing site data removes these saves; they do not sync with another device or the iPhone app. Settings include night mode and optional automatic cell advancement.
Correct entries earn points. High scores are stored by mode and difficulty and update only when beaten; completed-puzzle count and day streak are shared.
